Super Mom (She really can’t do it all)
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009When I woke up this morning I was bombarded by the alarm and the radio blasting away my husband usually sets his alarm and I set the radio but either way 5:am is 5:am. Well this morning was no different, or so I thought I had missed the initial alarm and it was the snooze alarm that was the ringing in my ears, How did this happen? There has never been a time that I just turned off the alarm, and gone back to sleep as much as I would like to. Well there is no way to get everything finished that I have to get finished. My children call me super mom. But really I just try to get it all done
If I could pick a day to sleep in it would especially not be on Tuesdays, There is trash for our home and two of my neighbors who are on vacation then there is getting the summer students off to there schools,(I have three in summer school at the moment) one of my own in college and a niece, then there are the summer youth camps to help keep the little ones in step for the beginning of school and after breakfast dishes I scour the web, and papers by 8:am so that I have a chance to apply for a job before the younger age people get the jump on the day. And this Tuesday was a birthday day.
Icing the cake I had left on the counter was on the top of my list, then I am in the older age bracket, born before 1960, so if a prospective employer that can see past the age factor will see that I am an energetic enthusiastic person with commendable work ethic (excusing today of course). And they will not miss the fact that I sent my resume in at the top of the morning. I do not sleep in, After having children and keeping up with their needs I gave up trying to sleep in as a lost cause, but I am not complaining even if it sounds like I am, I have a child leaving for college up state and well where has the time gone to, so no time for trying to sleep in
So back to what happened to my clock well my husband was attempting to let me sleep in ,because we were attacked by ants last evening when doing some much needed weed pulling, and well I took an anti allergy over the counter stuff and it made me sleepy, but I did not get to bed until midnight.
I decided to stay up baking while I waited for my husband to return, the nights are much cooler for baking and my son who is leaving this month had a birthday the next day Well a big mistake to bake when you think all are asleep, I left the un iced cake on the counter so that it could cool and I could decorate it the next day. I should have known better and of course I still blame that allergy stuff for my temporary (insanity) of leaving a freshly baked cake out in this household. Did I think about it all? Usually I count my fingers after serving up desert to my family. I might have left a note that it was a “birthday” cake hands off, but I did not recall having done that, well I am not only running late at all tasks that were to be finished early. Now I could not find the cake.
He said “no mom you’re not right!” I said that if he said one more word He would be grounded for a week by this time I was getting ice for my headache, when I notice the ice-maker would not render one ice cube, so I opened the freezer and there it was the cake all decorated and in the freezer the cake plate blocking the ice. I called to my son who came in and said that he was only trying to help me, so he thought since I was real busy here lately and that when he asked if he could help me yesterday I had mentioned that I needed two extra capable hands, well he said that he was capable and I said alright then see what you can do for your brothers birthday tomorrow and that I then went to bed.
I think that I will try to be a regular person this weekend and give (super mom a rest) and try to sleep in for once I failed to notice that one person just can’t do it all, I was very grateful for my sons help and for the lesson.
